Gulf Coast Central Control Building
A true combination of traditional proportions and modern materials, Smith LaRock Architecture has provided a lasting design for this blast resistant, safe haven, toxic mitigation, central control building located in the Southeast United States. This building’s exterior has the charm of the old South combined with its state of the art interior and control systems.
The safe haven requirement presents a unique design challenge met by providing redundant deep bed filtration scrubbing units to provide clean air into the building by filtering toxic gases (i.e. Hydrogen Sulfide gas) in the air. The building is also pressurized to keep unwanted toxic gases out of the building. The precast concrete provides adequate structural load bearing support for the roof as well as protecting the occupants in a blast resistant enclosure and resist hurricane windspeeds up to 160 mph.
SLA teamed up with another Architect to execute the Central Control Building for our client. Said architect was slated to help collaborate the exterior design of the building to relate and have the same language as the office building to give it the “Campus” feel the owner was looking for. The building language materials of brick and stone speaks to the traditional rustic architectural style found in the area while introducing and unifying modern materials throughout the interior design.
The project is a new central control building that houses over five dozen administration offices, control suite, full locker rooms, and redundant toxic mitigation HVAC system.
