Smith LaRock is a proud co-sponsor of the 3rd Anual Pipe Tech Americas Summit, taking place January 18-19, 2012 at the Sugar Land Marriott Town Square in Houston, Texas.

We are excited to participate in the Pipe Tech Americas Summit in January 2012.  The event is the premier event for senior executives working with and within the oil and gas pipeline industries.  Smith LaRock Architecture is proud to be a co-presenter at this event which is intended to address and deliver solutions to the most critical challenges faced by all pipeline operators and owners.

Along with our partners at this event, Human Centered Solutions, we will collectively provide insight into better operational excellence through our case study: The Human Factor: Strategies for Managing Controller Fatigue, Change Management and Proper Controller Training.   This case study will focus on the assessment of Operator performance under abnormal and alarm conditions, impacts of shift scheduling, rotation and hours of work on performance, enhancing overall performance through controller feedback into control room operations, and control room architectural design as a platform for enabling better situational awareness, applying improved operational best practices, and creating enhanced workplace solutions through better control room design, including lighting, acoustics, ergonomics, and  advances in console furniture.

We will demonstrate how our pipeline control facility design process helps integrate our client’s people, needs, process, and technology through our unique design approach that blends Human Factors and Architecture and our 3D DistanceDesign methodology. This technique helps us effectively communicate design concepts, check ergonomic solutions of the design with console and overview displays when needed, access the 3D model of the design solution in a real-time manner, and present this information to our clients ensuring a shared vision throughout the facility design process. This approach helps ensure that designed improvements in safety, reliability, and optimization are realized, as well as creating a cultural fit for the users of the facilities. Smith LaRock is committed to contributing to the success of the 2012 Pipe Tech Summit and it’s vision to define better safety explore the future of facility design and process control technology.
