Longview, Texas, May 21, 2014- Eastman Chemical Company (NYSE:EMN) has named Smith LaRock Architects, PC (SLA), of Denver, Colorado for their work with Design-Builder, Jacobe Brothers Construction, LTD (JBC) of Tyler, Texas the recipient of the 2013 Suppliers Innovation Award.
The JBC-SLA team was recognized for its unique approach to facility siting and blast mitigation planning. “JBC has helped Eastman Chemical completely change its approach to facility siting”, said Steve Dickerson, Commodities Manager of Eastman Chemical. He added that, “Less than 1% of all Eastman Suppliers and Contractors nationwide ever receive this award.”
“We are honored to be the 2013 Innovation Award winner for Eastman Chemical,” said Derek Watson, JBC’s Director of Business Development. “As a Design-Builder we have worked hard to put together a team of professionals that specialize in facility siting planning which includes toxic, fire and blast mitigation planning.” “Today’s refineries, chemical plants and other related facilities are very concerned about providing a safe work environment for their employees. The challenge they face is in choosing the most economical and efficient means to address these needs. A critical partner in this process for us has been Smith LaRock Architects. Mike Smith and his team bring unique and specialized experience to this process and are second to none when it comes to planning for the design of blast-rated buildings and high tech control centers.”
Mr. Dickerson went on to say, “We look forward to working with the JBC-SLA Team over the next few years to implement the recommendations made in the site-wide study they completed for us in 2013.”
The Eastman supplier and contractor awards program, focuses on companies based or operating in North America, seeks to recognize those companies that display exemplary qualities in the services they provide to Eastman Chemical and its personnel.
